Qalibaf terms US terror attack on Gen. Soleimani as insult to Iraqi sovereignty

Tehran, Sept 26, 2020 (ICANA) – President of the Islamic Parliament of Iran Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that the terrorist attack on Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani was an insult to the Iraqi sovereignty and breach of its independence.

Speaking in a meeting with the Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Qalibaf said that Iran has always underlined the sovereignty, security, independence and integrity of Iraq.

We believe that the current Iraq has a positive, important and effective role in the region, he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Qalibaf condemned US' interference in the region and presence of ISIS terrorists as a scourge of peace, stability and prosperity in Iraq and region as well.

Referring to recent compromise of some regional states with the Zionist regime of Israel, he said the Islamic world should not remain silent on this issue because the issue of Palestine is the first priority of the Islamic Ummah.

Qlaibaf reiterated that one of the most important demands of the Iraqi people, government and parliament is US withdrawal from this country, which is the root of insecurity.

He noted that US' exit from Iraq is the only way to solve problems.

Meanwhile, Fuad Hussein said Tehran-Baghdad enjoy strategic relations and called for further strengthening them.

"Today, I traveled to the neighboring and brotherly country of Iran, to which the history and geography of our country are linked and we have common political and economic interests," he said.

He described Iran as a brotherly and neighboring state which has a lot in common with Iraq.
