Qalibaf: Putin’s response to Supreme Leader letter shows determination for developing ties
Tehran, April 13, 2021 (ICANA) – President of the Islamic Parliament of Iran Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf referred to Vladimir Putin’s response to Iran Supreme Leader’s letter as showing determination for developing relations.
Iranian and Russian foreign ministry should follow up the issue, Qalibaf said in a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, adding that both sides have not been able to take advantage of capacities for developing trade ties.
My visit to Russia was a clear and official emphasis on the fact that the change of power in the US will have no effect on our approach and decisions in developing all-out ties between Iran and Russia, he added.
Iran and Russia should move toward a long-term agreement and joint cooperation in economic, security, political, cultural, social, scientific, academic and cyber fields, he noted.
The Eurasian Economic Union can help promote economic cooperation, he said adding that during the visit both sides agreed on creating a financial and logistic hub for facilitating trade ties.
Bilateral and multilateral cooperation such as the Astana process and other regional mechanisms can be very effective in fighting terrorism, security and development of the region.
Qalibaf urged Iran and Russia not to welcome any foreign intervention in other countries affairs.
Clearly, we must maintain the JCPOA framework, but the United States must also abide by its commitments, then we will also verify lifting sanctions.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Qalibaf referred to recent sabotage in Natanz, saying all countries should slam it and P4+1 should have clear position in this regard.
Iran reserves the right to respond to these events and will give timely response, he reiterated.
He went on to say that the third high council of cooperation between Iran and Russia will be held in Tehran soon.
He thanked Russia for its good cooperation with regard to sending the Corona vaccine to Iran, saying we emphasize the acceleration of sending more vaccines to Iran and also creating maximum acceleration in the joint production of vaccines in Iran.
Meanwhile, Lavrov said in this letter, you supported the idea that you proposed signing a comprehensive agreement between the two countries, and we hope that the Iranian Parliament will also support it when it is ready.
He said that over 500,000 doses of vaccine have so far been delivered to Iran, adding that the production of Sputnik V vaccine will be done in Iran soon.
He noted that the key for solving JCPOA issues will be unconditional return of US to its commitments under the JCPOA and implementing the UNSCR 2231.
We are against US unilateral approaches and believe that regional issues should be resolved through dialogue with the participation of the regional countries.
Referring to recent conflict in Karabakh, Lavrov said there is now an opportunity for regional and international cooperation to reconstruct infrastructure in the region.
