Japan to continue backing Iran nuclear deal: PM
Beijing, Feb 14, 2019(IRNA) – Japan Prime Minister Shinzō Abe says his country will continue its support for the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Japan TV on Thursday quoted Abe as telling Iran Speaker of Parliament Ali Larijani on Wednesday night that Irans' continued implementation of the nuclear accord after the US' unilateral exit in May 2018 is praiseworthy.
He hoped that the 90th anniversary of Iran-Japan relations will give an impetus to bilateral ties.
Japan TV added that Larijani had in a press conference after his meeting with Abe criticized Poland international conference, hosted by the US to discuss Iran.
Larijani strongly condemned the conference and said the US is possibly holding an anti-Iran circus out of its extreme mishap.
'Had the US' economic sanctions on Iran been effective, it would not have had to hold such a gathering. No far-sighted country participates or welcomes such a conference; the ceremony has not the least value to be attended to,' the Iranian speaker said.
He also expressed hope for further improvement of Iran-Japan relations.
