UNGA ex-president hails Iran's constructive role in region
Tehran, Jan 10, 2018(IRNA) – Former President of the UN General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft on Wednesday hailed Iran's constructive role in supporting the peace process in the region.
Lykketoft made the remarks during a meeting in the Iranian capital with Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, a special aide to Iran's parliament speaker on international affairs.
He said that establishment of sustainable security in the region requires participation of all the regional influential players.
The regional countries need to replace military solutions with political ones, Lykketoft said.
Preventing war and moving towards sustainable security would be only possible through political dialogue, Lykketoft added.
The Iranian official, for his part, underlined the need to boost the political trend in the region, while noting that regional insecurity has roots beyond the region.
Amir-Abdollahian expressed satisfaction over the outcome of Syria peace talks in Astana and Sochi, saying, adoption of real strategies in fighting terrorism and extremism along with determination of international community will bring about stability and security for the region.
Noting that restoration of security in the region rests upon focusing on political solutions, the official said that it is necessary for those who have chosen military solutions to shift their way and resort to political means.
