MP offers regret over Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict
Tehran, Oct 7, 2020 (ICANA) – Iranian chairman of Iran-Armenia parliamentary friendship group Mahdi Farshadan in a phone call with his Armenian counterpart Mkhitar Hayrapetyan expressed regret over recent conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan which has caused casualties and damages to properties.
He referred to Armenia and Azerbaijan as close neighbors and traditional friends for Iran, saying undoubtedly, Iran considers peace and stability in these countries as beneficial to regional people.
He noted that war is not solution to Karabakh conflict and two neighbors should hold talks based on international principles to find a way to escape crisis.
Iran is ready to help and mediate between two countries for solving the crisis.
We expect both sides to practice self-restraint in line with ending conflict promptly and starting negotiations.
Meanwhile, Hayrapetyan appreciated the efforts made by Iran for solving recent crisis.
He urged the international community to help stop conflicts.
He expressed concerns over terrorist groups' presence in the region, saying it will bring about instability and insecurity in the region.
Armenia welcomes cooperation between parliamentary friendship groups since they are important for reinforcing economic, cultural, scientific and parliamentary cooperation.
