Tehran, June 2, 2021 (ICANA) – Vice Chairman of the economic commission in the Islamic Parliament of Iran Ehsan Khandori said the $ 8.8 trillion share of the tourism sector accounts for more than 10% of the world economy, adding that Iran is ready for cooperation on materializing sustainable development.
Addressing the second general conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization (PAECO), Khandori said tourism plays a vital role in the world economy and has had the fastest economic growth in the world in recent years.
Tourism can be a powerful tool for regional development, because it motivates new economic activities and has a positive economic impact on employment and developing the society.
Historical and cultural commonalities provide the ECO with huge potential for tourism cooperation as a permanent and sustainable asset for economic development.
COVID19 pandemic has severely affected ECO and has created challenges in several areas, including the tourism sector. However, ECO member states will take advantage of this opportunity to focus on ECO Vision 2025 policies and strategies.
Khandori stressed facilitating visa issuance for the ECO member states.
As a country rich in natural, cultural and historical infrastructure, which is among the top ten ones in the world in terms of tourist attractions, Iran is ready to cooperate with ECO members aiming to promote sustainable development.
