MP: Iran Parliament ready to remove obstacles on developing Tehran-Yerevan ties

Tehran, December 22, 2021 (ICANA) – Chairman of Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group offered Iran's readiness Mahdi Farshadan said the Islamic Parliament of Iran is ready to increase the level of consultations with its counterparts in Armenia aiming to remove possible obstacles to developing relations between the two countries.

Speaking in a meeting with his Armenian counterpart Gevorg Papoyan, Farshadan said: "The two nations have had friendly relations for centuries, adding: "Next year, Iran and Armenia will celebrate 30th anniversary of official diplomatic relations."

Iran supports sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries, he added.

Meanwhile, Papoyan stressed the need to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and hoped that these negotiations would continue in Tehran and Yerevan.

Appreciating Iran's constructive stance on regional conflicts and supporting Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, he said: "We welcome Iran's role in regional and international issues."

The presence of representatives of the Armenian community in the Islamic Parliament of Iran is also an evidence for respecting the rights of religious minorities in Iran.
