Larijani criticizes EU for INSTEX inefficiency

Tehran, Feb 24, 2020 (ICANA) – President of the Islamic Parliament of Iran slammed the European Union for the inefficiency of the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchange (INSTEX).

Speaking in a meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, Larijani said unfortunately over the last year, EU has just spoke about the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Referring to Austria good cooperation with regard to the JCPOA, he expressed hope for Austrian FM's trip to result in developing ties.

Referring to the latest developments regarding the nuclear deal, he noted that Iran's economic interests have not been met under the deal.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani pointed to efforts made by Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani in fighting ISIS, saying If it had not been for his sacrifices, ISIS' crisis would prevailed in the region.

Meanwhile, Schallenberg vowed to make all efforts in line with preserving the nuclear deal.

Thanks to depth of relations between two countries, Iran can jointly make efforts for building confidence in the region, he added.

He noted that Iran has actively presented Hormuz Peace Endeavour which has been a positive step.

He also stressed the importance of establishing cooperation in economic, cultural, environmental, water and waste and crisis management fields.

Schallenberg criticized us withdrawal from the nuclear deal, saying Europeans leaders' trip to Iran indicate change in the way of thinking.

He vowed making efforts to preserved the JCPOA.
