Tehran, June 2, 2021 (ICANA) – Iranian lawmaker Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani said Iran has suggested creating ECO parliamentary group for promoting transit.
Addressing the second general conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization (PAECO), Amirabadi Farahani said parliaments as one of the main pillars of sovereignty, have played a vital role in the comprehensive and sustainable development and economic growth, and this role is especially evident in the field of transport infrastructure and facilitating transport, transit and customs processes.
Without clear regulations for transportation that result from domestic laws with international conventions and treaties, promoting transportation hardware and software will not be possible.
He stressed transportation as one of the most important bases of economic growth, saying undoubtedly, regional development and convergence will not be possible without having a communication infrastructure for economic, trade and cultural interactions.
Thanks to Iran’s strategic policy with regard to prioritizing cooperation with neighboring countries, the Islamic Parliament of Iran has seriously followed up developing communication axes with neighboring states and fortunately in recent years, the number of border crossings with neighbors has increased significantly.
The Islamic Republic of Iran was one of the first countries to approve the Transit Transport Framework Agreement (TTFA), which is a basic legal framework for developing regional transport cooperation.
He reiterated that during the coronavirus pandemic, that some countries closed their borders to transit trucks, Iran did not close any of its borders for commercial transport and did not impose any restrictions, especially on neighbors.
