Speaker Terms Preserving Friendly Ties with Neighbors "Irans Strategic Policy"

TEHRAN, Feb. 19, 2014 (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined in a meeting with his Kuwaiti counterpart Marzouq Al-Ghanim that Iran is persistent in maintaining its friendly ties with the neighboring countries.

"Pursuing maintenance of friendly and brotherly ties with the neighbors has always been the Islamic Republic of Irans strategic policy," Larijani said.

The Iranian parliament speaker pointed to the good relations between Iran and Kuwait, and said that the two countries policies are based on good neighborly ties, various religious and regional commonalities as well as reciprocal respect.

The Kuwaiti parliament speaker, for his part, said that Iran is an important and powerful country in the region, and added, "Kuwait is honored to continue its good relations with Iran."

Al-Ghanim and his accompanying delegation arrived in Tehran on Monday to attend the 9th Meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Tehran.

The Kuwaiti parliament speaker voiced satisfaction in his participation in the OIC Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting, and said, "The high-level participation of the Muslim parliament speakers in the Tehran conference indicates the important status of the Islamic Republic (of Iran) in the Muslim world."

Al-Ghanim pointed to the ongoing talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany), and said, "Kuwait believes that Irans nuclear program is completely peaceful and it complies with the international rules and regulations and we hope that the relevant negotiations will lead to desirable results"

Iran and Kuwait have sought to expand bilateral ties through exchanging several high-ranking delegations in the last few years.
