TEHRAN, Oct. 27, 2013 (FNA)- The Iranian legislature gave votes of confidence to two of President Rouhanis nominees for his vacant cabinet posts and rejected a third one in a session on Sunday afternoon, meaning that the Education and Science Ministries will now have new heads, while the post of Sports and Youth Affairs Minister will still be vacant three months after he introduced his administration.
President Rouhanis nominee for the Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry, Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, failed to win the parliaments support, while Ali Asqar Fani won 185 votes to become the new Education Minister and Reza Faraji Dana secured 159 votes of confidence to ascend to the top Science, Research and Technology ministry post in todays parliament session.
During the Sunday parliament session, President Rouhani was given one hour to defend the three nominees for the ministerial posts.
A number of Cabinet ministers and the First-Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri also attended the parliament session.
President Rouhani introduced the three nominees to the parliament last Saturday.
In August, the Iranian parliament gave votes of confidence to 15 of the presidents nominees for the cabinet posts, but rejected 3 others.
After four days of hard work, the Iranian legislature approved President Rouhanis nominees for the posts of Intelligence, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Oil, Energy, Roads and Urbanization, Agricultural Jihad, Defense, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Economy and Financial Affairs, Health, Cooperative and Labor, Justice, Industry and Mining and Trade, and Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministries with almost unprecedentedly high votes of confidence.
Yet, the MPs refrained from approving the presidents choice for the posts of Education, Science and Sports Ministries.
