TEHRAN, Nay 05, 2014 (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani reiterated that holding free election in Syria is the only solution to the crisis in the Middle-Eastern country.
"Given the fact that the Syrian people are the final decision-makers, diplomatic solution and holding free election can lead to the establishment of stability and tranquility in Syria," Larijani said in a meeting with Mexican Envoy to Tehran Ulises Canchola Gutierrez on Sunday.
He underlined the necessity for continued consultations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Mexico on various developments, and said, "The two countries independent positions on the international and regional issues, including the Islamic Republic of Iran and Mexicos opposition to on Syria, can be a ground for mutual cooperation on different international issues."
Syrians are due to elect their next president in June. Voting for Syrians inside the country will start on June 3 while those overseas will cast their votes on May 28. Government officials say President Bashar al-Assad is the "real guarantee" for the future of Syria and that it is very likely that he will be re-elected for a third seven-year term.
Also during the meeting in Tehran, Canchola Gutierrez emphasized the importance of the development of bilateral relations, and said, "Consolidation and strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries is necessary for further familiarity and closeness of the two nations with each other." He also stressed that high-ranking Mexican officials are deeply willing to develop scientific, technical and cultural ties with Iran.
In his congratulatory message to the Mexican nation and government on the anniversary of the countrys Independence Day in September, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also hailed the existing friendly relations between Iran and Mexico, and called for bolstering ties between the two countries in all arenas. Rouhani underlined the importance of enhancing relations with Mexico in the Iranian new administrations foreign policy. He further hoped for the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the line with safeguarding their interests at bilateral and international levels.
