Larijani Felicitates Tunisian Counterpart on Constitution Approval

TEHRAN,Feb, 02, 2014 (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, in a message on Sunday, to his Tunisian counterpart Mustapha Ben Jaafar congratulated him on the approval of the Arab countrys news constitution.

"This great success is surely an important step for the establishment of democracy and beginning of a new era in the consolidation of the achievements of the Tunisian nations historic revolution," Larijani said in his message.

The Iranian parliament speaker underlined that interactions between Iranian and Tunisian parliaments will play an important role in the consolidation of historical bonds between the two nations.

Last week, Tunisian National Constituent Assembly approved the countrys new constitution with an overwhelming majority, shortly after premier-designate named a new caretaker cabinet.

The assembly approved the constitution last Sunday with 200 votes in favor, 12 against and four abstentions.

"This constitution was the dream of Tunisians, this constitution is proof of the revival of the revolution, this constitution creates a democratic civil nation," Jaafar said.

Earlier this week, Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki in a meeting with Iranian Envoy to Tunis Peyman Jebeli stressed his countrys willingness to further strengthen relations with Tehran in all fields.

During the meeting on Wednesday, Marzouki referred to the abundant opportunities for mutual cooperation between Iran and Tunisia, and called for all-out expansion of bilateral ties and cooperation.

Jebeli, for his part, submitted Iranian President Hassan Rouhanis message to Marzouki to felicitate Tunisia on approval of its new constitution.

Marzouki appreciated President Rouhani for his felicitation message on the occasion of the approval of new constitution and called the event as an important step toward stabilization of situation in the country and as ground for strengthening ties with friendly and brotherly countries, including Iran.

Last month, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Tunisian Ambassador to Tehran Khaled Zitouni voiced their countries willingness to consolidate the bilateral relations between the two brotherly states.

In the meeting, Zarif praised Tunisia as a flag bearer of progressive movements in the North Africa, and underscored that Iran is resolve to promote ties with Tunis in all spheres.

Zitouni, for his part, underlined the need for expansion of Tehran-Tunis ties, particularly in economic and cultural fields and expressed optimism that the two countries would promote their relations in various areas in the future.
