TEHRAN,Feb. 19, 2014 (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and his Palestinian counterpart Salim Zanoun stressed the need for new practical steps to protect the oppressed people of Palestine against Israeli brutalities.
During the meeting which was held on the sidelines of the 9th Meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tehran on Tuesday, Zanoun praised Iran for providing spiritual support for Palestine.
"Iran is true supporter of the Palestinians," Zanoun said.
Zanoun pointed to Iran as pioneer in strengthening and consolidating unity in the Muslim world, and said, "The US and the Zionist regime are trying to divert the international public attention from the Palestinian cause, but Iran has always practically supported us."
The Iranian parliament speaker, for his part, underlined that Irans attitude towards the Palestinian issue is comprehensive and taken from the genuine goals of the Islamic Revolution.
Larijani reiterated that the issue of the Holy Quds is one of most important concerns of the Muslim World, and said, "The focal point of Muslim unity lies in the support for the ideals and the rights of the oppressed Palestinian nation and freedom of the Holy Quds."
The parliament speaker said that Irans support for the oppressed nation of Palestine is a humanitarian and Islamic duty, and underlined that the Muslim countries should not remain silent towards the savage acts of the Zionists.
Late in October, Irans Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaei expressed Tehrans deep concern about Israels inhuman measures in the Holy al-Quds, Gaza and other occupied Palestinian territories.
Khazaei, on behalf of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) called for the UN Security Council action against invasion of the Zionist regime of the sacred sites in the city of al-Quds.
The Iranian envoy expressed deep concern of the NAM members over invasion of the Zionist regime against Al Aqsa Mosque and insult of radical settlers to religious sites in the city of al-Quds and asked the UN Security Council (UNSC) to act promptly to stop such moves that endanger peace and security in the region.
He added that NAM wants the UNSC to consider such a dangerous issue, which threats international peace and stability and act to stop such provoking behavior of the Zionist regime and insult against sacred places.
Khazaei also expressed NAM members concern over violation of Palestinian human rights by the Zionist regime and massacre of civilians in military attacks, arrest and imprisonment as a part of such behavior.
He added that illegal blockade of Gaza Strip is another worrying issue that has seriously hurt civilian people and NAM members strongly condemn these acts and call for ending such illegal acts of the Zionist regime.
