TEHRAN, Dec. 01, 2013, (Press TV) Irans Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has urged cooperation among regional countries in order to resolve the ongoing crisis in Syria.
Larijani on Saturday warned against the consequences of the crisis in Syria on the security and stability of the region, urging collective cooperation among regional states to control the situation.
Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi in Irans capital, Tehran.
Stressing the continuation of Irans support for Syria, Larijani said, "The resistance of the Syrian government and nation against widespread attacks by terrorist groups changed field and operational conditions in favor of the country."
The Iranian official added that world public opinion and political atmosphere have changed in favor of innocent Syrians after the realities in Syria were revealed.
The Syrian premier, for his part, expressed appreciation for the support of the Iranian nation and government for Syria.
Al-Halqi said Syrians will never forget Irans humanitarian aid during such difficult times.
Al-Halqi arrived in Tehran on Friday to discuss regional issues, including the Syrian crisis, with Iranian officials.
Halqis trip to Iran comes ahead of a January 22, 2014, international meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, which aims to address the crisis in Syria. The meeting, commonly referred to as Geneva 2, is seen as a follow-up to a first meeting that was also held in the Swiss city in June 2012.
