Tehran, April 24, 2014, IRNA - Chairman of Majlis Planning and Budget Commission Gholamreza Mesbahi-Moqaddam said that Iran does not consider weapons of mass destruction as defensive; rather they are posing threat to humanity.
In a meeting with the Chairman of the Finance Committee of the French Senate Philippe Marini, he noted that Iran has shown goodwill by acceding to Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and accepting supervisions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Recalling Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khameneiˈs edict prohibiting the use of nuclear weapons, Mesbahi-Moqaddam noted that the religious order clearly bans production, stockpiling and use of weapons of mass destruction. The cleric referred to the ancient history of Iran-France ties, saying that Iranˈs positive attitude towards France is a valuable asset for promoting bilateral ties in all fields.
As to decline in the level of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries due to US unilateral sanctions, the lawmaker said that given the new atmosphere appeared in the international scene about Iran, France is expected to make efforts to enhance the economic and commercial ties to an acceptable level.
Marini, for his part, expressed pleasure with his Tehran visit, saying that French delegation arrived in Tehran to get further acquainted with Iran economic capacities and take initiatives to promote bilateral ties. He further hoped that given the positive climate of talks between Iran and world powers, sanctions against Iran would be lifted to help enhance Iran-France economic ties.
