Iran and Switzerland stress strengthening of ties
Iran and Switzerland stress strengthening of ties Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called for the expansion of economic and cultural cooperation between Iran and Switzerland. Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with Pascale Bruderer Wyss the President of the National Council of Swiss on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 3rd World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments held at the Office of the United Nations in Geneva. There is great potential for cooperation between the two countries, particularly in oil and gas sectors, Larijani said. Tehran is seeking to sell its natural gas to Europe in the future, he added. Neutrality of Switzerland has contributed to the formation of a positive image of the country, which has helped to the resolution of various regional and global issues on various occasions, he noted. Commenting on Iran’s nuclear issue and the latest anti-Iran sanctions, Larijani stressed that sanctions could not be a reasonable solution. “Iran has never sought to develop nuclear weapons and it is supporting nuclear disarmament.” Iran and its neighbors are grappling with various problems including terrorism and drug smuggling, Larijani stated. Pascale Bruderer Wyss, for his part, said, “Although Switzerland does not agree with Tehran on all issues, however, the relations between the two countries are friendly and Berne is committed to continue its interactions with Iran.” The cultural exchanges between Tehran and Geneva could lead to a better understanding of one another since bilateral ties are based on mutual respect, she explained
