Head of Iran-Spain Friendship Group Blames West for Spread of Terrorism in region
TEHRAN, Julay 17, 2014 (FNA)- A senior lawmaker, who heads the Iran-Spain Friendship Group at the Iranian legislature, blamed the western countries for a rise in the activities of the terrorist and extremist groups in the Middle East region.
"The activities of these groups are the outcome of the Wests tactical approach towards the terrorism phenomena," Head of Iran-Spain Parliamentary Friendship Group Hassan Kamran said in a meeting with Chairman of the Spanish Parliaments Foreign Policy Commission Duran Lleida in Tehran on Wednesday.
Kamran condemned the terrorist acts conducted by extremist groups, and said, "The Muslim people of the region have always hated the terrorist groups."
The senior Iranian lawmaker pointed to the age-old Iran-Spain relations, and said, "There are many commonalities between Iran and Spain which need to be strengthened to reinforce the two countries relations," he said.
Lleida, for his part, said that parliamentary diplomacy is a good tool for expanding bilateral relations, adding that broadening of parliamentary relations between the two countries can help strengthen Tehran-Madrid mutual cooperation in political, economic and scientific areas.
The visiting Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Spanish Parliament has had several meetings with senior Iranian officials during his trip to Tehran.
On Tuesday, Duran Lleida met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, where the two sides discussed bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region.
At the meeting, Larijani condemned the recent terrorist acts carried out by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Iraq and Israeli forces attacks against civilians in the Gaza Strip, and blamed the US and its allies for escalating most of the crisis in the Middle-East.
"Strengthening and supporting terrorism by the US and some regional countries are the main causes of insecurity and chaos in the region," Larijani said.
He condemned the tragedies and crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza, and said, "The independent countries are expected not to remain indifferent towards massacre of women and children as well as slaughter of innocent people in Gaza by the Zionist regime." Israel has been pounding the blockaded Gaza for 9 consecutive days, killing at least 200 people and injuring more than 1,400 others.
According to the UN, 77% of the victims in Gaza are civilian and defenseless people.
