MP: Aggression, third countries intervention not a good solution for Karabakh

Tehran, Oct 18, 2020 (ICANA) – Chairman of the executive council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Ahmad Naderi described negotiations and political solution as the best way for solving Karabakh conflict, saying aggression and intervention of third countries will not be a good solution.


Tehran, Oct 18, 2020 (ICANA) – Chairman of the executive council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Ahmad Naderi described negotiations and political solution as the best way for solving Karabakh conflict, saying aggression and intervention of third countries will not be a good solution.

Naderi made the remarks in a phone call with Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union of Armenia.

He referred to historical, cultural and neighborhood commonalities between two countries, saying reinforcing relations in various fields especially parliamentary ones will help develop ties.

He expressed regret over conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, saying Iran has clear stance in this regard which is respecting territorial integrity of countries and holding talks for solving disputes.

Iran is worried about escalation of tensions, casualties and killing civilians.  

He stressed the importance of practicing self-restraint and holding talks.

He noted that Karabakh issues can be solved through parliamentary diplomacy capacities like IPU and other related bodies.

Hovhannisyan, for his part, said Iran plays pivotal role with regard to establishing peace and security.

He appreciated Iran’s efforts and underlined Iran’s role as a respectable neighbors for Armenia.

Armenia welcomes establishing truce and taking advantage of Iran’s capacities.
