Europe urged to take practical steps instead of making promises

Tehran, Dec 12, 2018(IRNA) – Europe should take “practical steps” towards honoring its positive pledges on financial mechanism for keeping the 2015 nuclear deal alive, the special aide to Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) speaker said on Wednesday.

Tehran, Dec 12, 2018(IRNA) – Europe should take “practical steps” towards honoring its positive pledges on financial mechanism for keeping the 2015 nuclear deal alive, the special aide to Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) speaker said on Wednesday.

Europe should accelerate taking practical measures over US unilateral sanctions against Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in a meeting with senior official at Europe’s security committee Tarja Cronberg in Tehran.

Despite the world’s criticism over Washington’s anti-Iran measures, US President Donald Trump reinstated unilateral sanctions on Tehran on November 5, few months after leaving the JCPOA, and imposed as he claimed the “highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to Iranian officials, the Europeans try to fulfill their promises about the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in order to pave the way for Iran to make use of economic conditions created after the 2015 deal which was unilaterally breached by the US on May 8.

Amir-Abdollahian said the political stance the Europeans have taken on US unilateral measures is appreciable.

However, Europeans’ slowness in their decisive measures is unacceptable, the official said.

“Time, which is running out, is so important in this case,” Amir-Abdollahian stressed.

Touching upon Iran’s constructive role in diplomatically solving the regional crises and fighting against terrorism, the official said that the sacrifices made by the Iranian military advisors in Syria and Iraq to combat terrorist group of Daesh (ISIS) has prevented terrorists from entering Europe.

Referring to the terrorist grouplet of Mojahedin Khalq Organization’s (MKO) recent anti-Iran moves in Europe, the senior Majlis official said that the grouplet is involved in security activities in some European countries and try to associate their activities with Tehran in order to interrupt relations between Iran and Europe.

“Europe should be vigilant in this case.”

For her part, Ms Cronberg said that Europe is after finding ways to save the JCPOA.

Referring to her constructive talks with the Iranian officials, she said that the Iran deal is among the agreements in which Europe has common interests.

Cronberg, who is also associate fellow at Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), said that Europe is committed to meet Iran’s expectations about the JCPOA.

To save the Iran Deal is of paramount importance, she added.

JCPOA is a good model for solving political disputes, she said, adding that Iran is among the first states which are after a Middle East region free of weapons.

Under the financial mechanism named Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Europe is to facilitate trade with Iran.
