MP says parliament hails facilitating ties with Georgia

Tehran, Nov 18, 2019 (ICANA) – Senior lawmaker referred to historic and cultural relations between Iran and Georgia, saying the Islamic Parliament of Iran welcomes reinforcing and facilitating ties between two countries.

Chairman of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Parliament of Iran Mojtaba Zolnouri made the remarks in a meeting with Head of the Georgian-Iranian parliamentary Friendship Group Shalva Kikenaveldezia.

He added that grounds have been paved for establishing cooperation in transportation, oil, energy, culture, training, agriculture and tourism fields between Iran and Georgia.

He also expressed support for Georgia territorial integrity and underlined holding interactions among regional states aiming to solve regional issues.

Underlining removing obstacles on banking and economic relations, Zolnouri said standardization of Iran’s exports products to Georgia based on European barometers is a bit stringent.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Iranian MP stressed reinforcing relations between expert parliamentary commissions.

Kikenaveldezia, for his part, referred to Georgia geographical position and its good conditions for investment, saying there are significant capacities for promoting cooperation namely in connecting Black Sea to Persian Gulf through railway and in  education, energy and tourism fields.

He also appreciated Iran’s support of Georgia territorial integrity with regard to Abkhazia issue.

He underscored Iran’s important status in regional relations.
