Tehran, Oct 8, 2019 (ICANA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the reason why President Hassan Rouhani did not accept suggestion for Iran-US talks was that Donald Trump had officially said at UNGA session that he will not only reduce sanction but he will increase them.
Zarif described Iranian delegation's trip to New York as one of the most concise diplomatic ones.
Despite the fact that Americans tried to restrict movements of Iranian President's delegation and also the foreign minister's especially as regard media sector, this trip brought about many news.
Americans did not issue visa for the officials in media department of the presidential office and the Foreign Ministry as well, he noted.
He went on to say that President Rouhani had over 40 meetings, adding that he himself had also many meetings.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Iranian top diplomat referred to Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE) presented by Rouhani in a situation that the region is facing danger of war as a strategic act.
We need negotiations and peace more than ever, he reiterated.
Shedding light on the crimes in Yemen were among the issues raised by the Iranian delegation in New York, Zarif said, adding that they also stressed the need for Europeans to fulfill their part under the nuclear accord known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as well as the possibility of talks with the US only when it returns to their JCPOA commitments.
Zarif noted the fact that if the other party do not implement its commitments under the deal, Iran will start the 4th step.
Iran has announced since the beginning that it is ready for negotiations at the same time it is taking its steps, he said adding that Iran will continue taking other steps until the time they do not comply with the deal.
Referring to France's four-point plan, he said they presented their proposal dealing with US return to its JCPOA commitments, Iran full compliance with its commitments and start of talks.
He urged Americans to know that if they favor Joining P 5+1, they should implement their commitments.
The negotiating table is still in place, Zarif said underling that it was Americans who left it and violated their commitments.
