Majlis speaker: Tehran, Baku will be each other’s friend, supporter
Tehran, Dec. 18, 2017(IRNA) – Iran's Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani hailed Iran and Azerbaijan Republic’s long-standing ties, saying that the two countries will remain friends and supporters for each other.
In a meeting with Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Vasif Talibov on Sunday, Larijani hoped that the Caspian Sea will serve as a ground for peace, calmness and extensive cooperation.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is steadfast in its friendship with Azerbaijan Republic and will stand alongside its friends forever,” he said.
Numerous cultural commonalities between the two countries make it necessary to promote bilateral economic and political relations, he said.
“Regional status quo and insecurities in it have promoted us to boost political and security relations to be able to contribute to establishment of peace and stability in the region,” Larijani added.
Referring to the need for further collaboration in the oil sector in the Caspian Sea region, Larijani said that suitable dialogues have been made between the Iranian and Azerbaijani presidents hoping that the waterway will serve as a ground for peace, stability and further cooperation.
Meanwhile, Talibov, for his part, said that the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is a state within the framework of Azerbaijan and has its own parliament and seven representatives from the autonomous republic are elected to the national assembly.
Iran-Azerbaijan relations are based on friendship and brotherhood and this friendship would last forever, Talibov said.
Exchange of visits of large numbers of tourists from both countries reveal the two nations’ proximity, he said.
Talibov also stressed the need for promoting economic and trade ties between the two capitals.
