TEHRAN,Apr. 09, 2017(FNA)- Senior Advisor to the Iranian Parliament Speaker Hossein Amir Abdollahian underlined that broadening of relations between Tehran and Moscow in the field of counterterrorism will help bring back regional security and stability.
"The expansion of mutual cooperation between Iran and Russia will be to the benefit of both nations and help restore security and tranquility to the region," Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan in Tehran on Saturday.
He reiterated that the Syrian measures in fight against terrorism and the efforts aimed at resolving the Syrian crisis through political means is very admirable and expansion of Tehran-Moscow to this end will be good help in resolving the ongoing problems of Syria.
"Iran plays a very significant status in the region and the country’s role in regional developments is undeniable," Amir Abdollahian said.
The Russian ambassador, for his part, referred to the growing trend of cooperation between Iran and Russia at domestic, regional and international levels, and said, "Iran has a very significant and undeniable status in the region."
He said that Moscow supports political means in resolving regional crisis and believes that continued consultation between Tehran and Moscow help resolve regional crisis.
In relevant remarks on Friday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov hailed Moscow, Tehran and Ankara for their ongoing cooperation to help resolve the Syrian crisis.
"The joint efforts by Russia, Iran and Turkey over Syrian talks in Astana, Kazakhstan, have brought about positive achievements," Gatilov said.
The Russian deputy foreign minister reiterated that the current comprehensive ceasefire took effect on the initiative of Iran, Russia and Turkey and approval by UN Security Council.
Gatilov underlined that the convergence among Russia, Iran and Turkey over Syria entails positive achievements.
Iranian delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari attended the third round of Astana Talks along with Russian and Turkish delegations on February 16.
