2,100 Majlis candidates register in Tehran constituency
Tehran, Dec. 25,2015(IRNA) – Tehran Governor General Seyed Hossein Hashemi announced 2100 candidates had registered for Majlis (parliament) election in Tehran city constituency by Friday afternoon.
The governor general informed that another 270 candidates had registered in other constituencies of Tehran province.
Hashemi added that 176 candidates have also registered for Assembly of Experts election in Tehran province constituency.
The 88 members of the Assembly of Experts, known as mujtahids, are directly elected for eight year term.
Hashemi said that number of registered candidates for Assembly of Experts is more than 10 times more than Tehran provinces seats in the assembly.
The official said that number of registered candidates for Majlis election increased by more than 60 percent compared to the previous elections.
Hashemi reminded that from December 26 work on qualification of candidates will be started.
Tehran Province has 16 seats in Assembly of Experts and 35 seats in Majlis.
The 10th Majlis election and 5th election of Assembly of Experts will be held on February 26, 2016, simultaneously.
The 32nd Majlis, also known as Islamic Consultative Assembly, has 290 seats, representing 31 provinces, elected for four year terms.
