TEHRAN, Feb. 12, 2017 (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven in Tehran underlined that the ongoing crisis in Syria and Yemen can merely be resolved through diplomacy and that national unity is the best way to put an end to the hostilities in those countries.

“The formation of the national unity government is the best method for putting an end to animosities in Yemen and Syria,” Larijani said during the meeting on Saturday night.

He pointed to the long-term wars in Syria and Yemen, and said, "One of the reasons for all these insecurities in the region is that some countries suppose that the problems in these countries can be removed through military invasion while we believe that the political solution through establishment of democracy and formation of a national unity government is the best method for putting an end to such hostilities."

In relevant remarks on Tuesday, Iranian Supreme Leader's top aide Ali Akbar Velayati renewed Tehran's support for the peaceful settlement to the ongoing crisis in Syria and an enduring ceasefire in the Arab country.

"Negotiations to resolve the Syrian crisis must be held between the Syrian government and opposition groups and the war must finally end,” Velayati told reporters.

The Supreme Leader's top aide said that Iran supports establishment of a balanced and just ceasefire in Syria, adding, "Any ceasefire in Syria must safeguard that country's territorial integrity."

Velayati also reaffirmed Iran's support for the Iraqi government and nation in their fight against terrorism.

"An independent and strong Iraq and a powerful Iran are two links in the chain of resistance against the Zionists and reactionary states in the region," he said, adding that the two countries play a key role in regional resistance.
